Fast bowler Trent Boult walked out of his contract with the New Zealand cricket team in August last year. Because, Boult will be able to spend more time with family and participate in franchise cricket around the world. However, now that he has opted out of the deal, he still wants to be a part of his national team for the ODI World Cup 2023 in India later this year.
Trent Boult is 33 years old and was not selected in the Indian team after the T20 World Cup last year. Because the selectors gave preference to contracted players. Speaking to the media, Boult said, “Now I really want to play cricket for New Zealand. I have been lucky enough to play for New Zealand for 13 years. I still want to play in the World Cup.”
New Zealand lost to England in the 2019 World Cup final. However, Bolt is confident that his team can become champions in the tournament to be held in India between October and November.
Bolt further said, “I remember saying to Kane Williamson after the 2019 final that we want to reach this peak again in 2023 in India. It is unfortunate that he has a knee injury, but he will do his best to be fit for the World Cup. It’s such a great tournament and I definitely want to be a part of it.”
Williamson was injured early in the IPL. Therefore, there is a doubt about his playing in the World Cup. Boult said, “Our ODI team is fantastic. Also, we have very good players, who have good experience of playing in India, which will come in handy in the World Cup.”
