For ‘this’ reason, the legendary Indian cricketer is not applying to become a selector, Harbhajan revealed
Currently, the selection committee is the most talked about topic in Indian cricket. There have been many changes in the selection committee in the last four months. The selection committee of the Indian senior men’s team was disbanded after a poor performance in the T20 World Cup. However, Chetan Sharma from the same committee was made the Chief Selector within a period of one and a half months. A few days ago, in a sting operation, Sharma, who made many shocking revelations in Indian cricket, had to resign. After that, his seat is now vacant. But, recently former cricketer Harbhajan Singh revealed why experienced players do not apply for the selection committee seat.
Speaking at an event, Harbhajan Singh expressed his opinion on why Indian cricketers with more experience are not working in the selection committee. he said,
“If you want ex-cricketers with more experience in the selection committee, you have to pay a big price. Those players may have to pay such amount to the head coach. To take Virender Sehwag as an example, though he qualifies, you have to pay a heavy price for his experience. Because, those players also give such results. Otherwise they have an opportunity to make more money by commenting.”
According to media reports, currently the Chairman of the Indian Selection Committee gets an annual salary of Rs.1 crore. Whereas, other members are paid an annual salary of 90 lakhs. On the other hand, the head coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid, earns as much as Rs 7 crores every year.
