Former coaches see Pujara in Rohit! Said, “It reminded me of the Australia tour”.

The first match of the 4-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between India vs Australia was played at Nagpur.. On the strength of an excellent team performance, the host Indian team ended the match on the third day itself. India won the match by an innings and 132 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant century in this match. India’s former coach Sanjay Bangar has praised this innings which achieved the right timing of attack and patience.

In the Nagpur Test, the Australian team scored 177 runs while batting in the first innings. In reply, India scored 77 for 1 on the first day. Rohit scored an unbeaten 56 off 69 balls on the first day. Then on the next day, he showed patience and completed his century in 177 balls. This included 14 fours and 2 sixes. Rohit scored 120 runs in his ninth career century before being dismissed. This included 15 fours and 2 sixes. This was his 9th century in Test career

Appreciating his innings, Sanjay Bangar said,

“Rohit Sharma reminds me of Cheteshwar Pujara with his strong defence. The way Pujara beat Australia in Australia. Exactly the same way Rohit played this innings against the spinners.”

Pujara was instrumental in both India’s series wins against the Australian fast bowlers on the 2017 and 2021 tours.
