Former coach’s serious accusation against Sachin! Said, ‘After I joined the team, Sachin…’
Gary Kirsten, the coach who made the Indian team the World Cup winner in 2011, made a big revelation. The Indian team has had many coaches till date. Some of these coaches have been very successful, while others have had controversial tenures. Former South Africa cricketer Gary Kirsten’s stint with the Indian team is considered to be the best. Although the team won the World Cup under Kirsten’s guidance, Sachin Tendulkar was disappointed with them, Kirsten himself revealed.
In the year 2011, the Indian team won the title by defeating the Sri Lankan team in the final match of the ODI World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar was also part of the World Cup winning team and also won the last ODI World Cup of his career. As it was Sachin’s last World Cup, the Indian team gave it their all and won the title. The head coach of the team at that time was Gary Kirsten and his contribution to the team remained significant. However, Sachin was quite disappointed after Kirsten joined the team.
The 2007 World Cup was played in the West Indies. India’s performance in this World Cup was very disappointing. India suffered defeats against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and were eliminated from the tournament. Gary Kirsten has made an amazing revelation about this. Speaking to Adam Collins on his YouTube channel, Kirsten made this revelation about Sachin Tendulkar. According to Kirsten, when he joined the Indian team in 2007, some of the players, including Sachin Tendulkar, were not happy.
“What was most important to me was what kind of leadership the team needed, the kind of leadership that would make this talented team a world champion. This is a big challenge for any coach. When I took charge, there was definitely an atmosphere of fear in the team. A lot of people were not happy and for that reason it was very difficult to understand everyone. When I joined the team, Sachin was not happy at all. Sachin at that time thought he could contribute a lot, but at that time he was not enjoying cricket (not in form). At that time, Sachin was also thinking of retirement. It was important for me to go and talk to him. It was important for me to talk to him and explain that he can still do a lot for India.” (‘Sachin Tendulkar was not happy after I joined the team…’, claims former coach Gary Kirsten)
