India’s Test and ODI squads for the West Indies tour were announced on Friday (June 23). Rohit Sharma has retained the responsibility as the captain of the Test team, while returning veteran Ajinkya Rahane has once again been given the vice-captaincy of the team. In addition, many young players have also got opportunities in both the teams. This team shows how Indian team can be in future.
Yashasvi Jaiswal- After literally scoring runs in domestic cricket as well as IPL, Yashasvi Jaiswal has got an opportunity in the Indian team. He was the highest run-scorer in the domestic season last year. Also, he has become an emerging cricketer in IPL. With all this in mind, he has now got a chance in the Test team. He can claim the third position in place of Cheteshwar Pujara.
Rituraj Gaikwad- After a strong performance in the IPL for the third year in a row, Rituraj’s place in the Indian team seems to be confirmed. Rituraj, who has played one ODI and 9 T20Is for India so far, will be seen in the Test team for the first time. Interestingly, he will be seen playing in both teams on this tour.
Sanju Samson- Having immense experience in IPL and domestic cricket, Sanju Samson has yet to get that much opportunity in international cricket. However, in view of the ODI World Cup to be held in India, BCCI and the selection committee are expected to make him a regular part of the ODI team.
Mukesh Kumar- Bengal fast bowler Mukesh Kumar was also rewarded for his good performance in domestic cricket and IPL. With Mohammed Shami rested, Mukesh can now also make his debut for the Indian team.
