The Indian team won the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia by 6 wickets on Sunday (February 19). With this victory, the Indian team took a 2-0 lead in the four-match Test series. Also, India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Australian team will now have a big challenge to avoid a white wash. With the Australian team in dire straits, former India opener and commentator Gautam Gambhir has given a piece of advice.
In the first Test at Nagpur, Australia’s batsmen suffered a humiliating defeat. Australia were then expected to make a comeback in the second Test. In the first two days, Australia played brilliantly and took control of the match. However, in the first session on the third day, Australia lost nine wickets to Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. India then chased down the target of 115 runs for the win with the loss of four wickets to take the lead in the series.
Talking about the Australian team, Gambhir said,
“You can’t make these players change technique in the middle of a series. You cannot teach them defense. If we look at the individual performances of the players, we will see them struggle a bit in the series. Comebacks are impossible when it comes to team performance.”
Speaking further, Gambhir said,
“I see some players in the Australian team who are doubting their own talent. You have batsmen like Steve Smith, Marnus Labuchen and Usman Khawaja. These batsmen can make a big difference.”
Gambhir also expressed doubts that the Indian team will win the series 4-0. He said that Australia can keep a match tied.
