The Delhi Capitals team is off to a great start in IPL 2023. Delhi have not been able to get a single win in the tournament so far. Delhi lost all the five matches they played. After this defeat, the captain of the team, David Warner and the players are heavily criticized. However, Ravi Shastri, the former head coach and commentator of the Indian team, has put the mentor of the team Sourav Ganguly on edge.
Delhi Capitals were led by David Warner this season due to a serious injury to regular captain Rishabh Pant following an accident. But an experienced and IPL winning captain like Warner could not change the fortunes of the team. Delhi was defeated by Lucknow in the first match. After that, they failed to win against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. In the match against Mumbai, they lost by running out on the last ball. After that, RCB also beat them one-sidedly.
Talking about this poor performance of the team, Shastri said,
“The worrying thing for Delhi is that other teams are moving fast. After you lose five games in a row, it is a bit difficult to come back. Warner is a player who has always been part of a winning team. He hates defeat. If you are losing, you are losing very one-sidedly. They may even have given up hope of victory.”
Talking about Delhi’s mentor Sourav Ganguly, Shastri said,
“Ganguly must have thought it was easy. However, this is not the case. You have to have the right strategy.”
Ganguly was the mentor of the Delhi Capitals team in 2019. After that, he continued to serve as the president of BCCI for three years. This year, he has made a comeback in the IPL in the role of Delhi’s mentor and operations head.
