Ganguly surprised by making Rahane vice-captain again! A big statement from the former captain
India’s experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane was able to perform brilliantly in the final match of the World Cricket Championship. As all the other batsmen in the team failed, Rahane was seen alone facing the Australian bowlers. Against this backdrop, he was once again given the vice-captaincy of India. However, former Indian captain and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly does not agree with this decision of the team management.
Ajinkya Rahane (Sourav Ganguly) scored 89 and 46 runs in the final match of WTC. Before that he was away from international cricket for almost 18 months. Rahane’s performances for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2023 gave him a chance to make a comeback to the team. He took full advantage of this team and again won the vice-captaincy of the Test team during the West Indies tour. Many are surprised by Rahane’s sudden return to the team and being immediately made vice-captain. Even Sourav Ganguly himself was not thinking about these things.
While talking to the media, Ganguly was asked a question. Shubman Gill Should an ideal Shubman Gill have been considered for the role of vice-captain? He was asked this question. Ganguly replied, “Yes I think so too.” According to Ganguly, the decision to make Rahane vice-captain is not a loss for the team, but it does not seem practical either.
On the team management’s decision, Ganguly said, “I am not saying that the team has taken a step in the opposite direction. But you’re out of the team for 18 months, then you play a Test and you’re made vice-captain. I don’t understand the reasoning behind this. Ravindra Jadeja has also been in the team for a long time and definitely plays in Test matches. He was also an option for the vice-captaincy.”
“What I want to say is that there should be stability in the selection process. The Indian selectors have started making changes by dropping big players like Cheteshwar Pujara. The selectors should have clarified their stance on him. He should have said whether he wants to play in the Test team or go ahead with the youngsters. It is not right to take a player like Pujara in the team. Same with Ajinkya Rahane,” Ganguly added. (Sourav Ganguly surprised by Ajinkya Rahane being made vice-captain again)
