Gavaskar picks Indian playing XI for WTC Final, sacks Border-Gavaskar trophy-winning Pattha

The India vs Australia World Test Championship 2023 final will be played at England’s K Oval. Ahead of this match, the former legends are selecting their respective playing elevens. Indian veteran player Sunil Gavaskar has also been included in this. Gavaskar has selected his Indian playing XI for the WTC final.

This is the second time that the Indian team has reached the WTC Final. Earlier in the 2021 WTC final, the Indian team lost against the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team. Now before the final match of the World Test Championship 2023 (World Test Championship 2023 Final) which will be held from 7 to 11 June, veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar has selected the Indian playing eleven.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar expressed hope that the Indian team will field three fast bowlers and two spinners. He said that the team management should prioritize KS Bharat over Ishan Kishan as a wicket-keeper.

Gavaskar said, “As for the batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will open the innings. Cheteshwar Pujara at number three, Virat Kohli at number four and Ajinkya Rahane at number five.” Gavaskar said that the sixth position could be a challenge for the Indian team. Because, they have to choose between KS Bharat and Ishan Kishan.

Giving his decision, he said, “I think it will be either KS Bharat or Ishaan Kishan at number six. They are talking about Bharat. Because, he has played such matches before. So maybe they will pick Bharat at this number.”

Speaking further, Gavaskar said that India should go with three pacers and two spinners. Gavaskar did not include Akshar Patel, who performed brilliantly in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said, “Ravindra Jadeja will play at number seven. If it’s sunny and the weather is good, I think Jadeja plays at number seven and R Ashwin at number eight.
