Gill’s tear at number three, a resounding flop despite the advice of veterans; Returned to the tent for just 6 runs

When the Indian squad was announced for the 2-match Test series against the West Indies, there was excitement across the country. Because Cheteshwar Pujara, who is known as a Test specialist, was dropped from the team. In his place, the selectors gave a chance to newcomer Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi took advantage of this opportunity and scored a century on his debut. Also, he also put together a partnership of over 200 runs for the first wicket with skipper Rohit Sharma. Also, Rohit went on to score a century. However, when Rohit was dismissed, there was a lot of expectation from Shubman Gill. He failed to live up to these expectations.

Shubman Gill Flop
In fact, Indian team’s star batsman Shubman Gill returned to the tent for just 6 runs in the Dominica Test match against West Indies. After his dismissal, netizens trolled him on social media. Some fans even joked that even Dravid’s advice did not work for Gill. In addition, many people felt sad because of his dismissal. Should one play Ruturaj Gaikwad in his place? Or even questioned whether Gill should be given another chance.

As it happened, Jomel Warrican was bowling the 79th over of India’s innings. Gill tried to play the fifth ball of this over that went close to the off stump. However, the ball took a slight turn and went to Alick Athanaje who stopped at second slip taking the edge of the bat. Thus Warrican got his first wicket. So Gill had to return to the tent on 6 runs off 11 balls with 1 four.

In fact, Shubman Gill had discussed batting at number three with head coach Rahul Dravid. He had said that he wanted to bat at number three. He also got permission for this. Meanwhile, Gill said, “It’s always good to play with a new ball. I have experience with the new ball and when you are batting at number three, it is not very different. However, there is a gap between these.”

When has Gill finished third before?
Interestingly, Gill last played at number three in a Test in December 2021. In that Test match against New Zealand played in Mumbai, Gill managed to score only 47 runs off 75 balls in the second innings.
