‘Give Gahunje Stadium after Sharad Pawar’, NCP leader’s demand to MCA

Currently Maharashtra Premier League (MPL 2023) is organized by Maharashtra Cricket Association. A grand event was held on the inaugural day of this league. Dhananjay Munde wrote in a letter to MCA President Rohit Pawar,

‘Padma Vibhushan respectable Sharad Pawar has made a great contribution to the world of cricket. In honor of Saheb’s contribution, the President of MCA demanded that the International Ground of Maharashtra Cricket Association (Gahunje) in Pune should be named after respected Saheb. It has been done with Rohit Dada Pawar. Kudos to Dada and the entire team for organizing the MPL on the lines of IPL!’

Sharad Pawar is seen to have a very close relationship with the cricket world. He served as the President of Mumbai Cricket Association and BCCI for many years. Along with this, he has also served as the president of the International Cricket Council.
