Golden day of Afghanistan cricket! First recorded victory over Pakistan in history, Nabi shines

The first match of the ongoing Afghanistan vs Pakistan T20 series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was played on Friday (February 24). Afghanistan cricket team created history by defeating Pakistan by six wickets in the match played in Sharjah. This is Afghanistan’s first win against Pakistan at any level. Experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi was the hero of Afghanistan’s victory.

The series is being played in UAE, with Afghanistan playing host. Pakistan team led by Shadab Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. However, his decision turned out to be wrong. All of Afghanistan’s bowlers proved why they are called T20 specialists and pummeled Pakistan at regular intervals. All six bowlers who bowled for Afghanistan took wickets to restrict Pakistan to 92 for 9 in 20 overs. Imad Wasim top scored for Pakistan with 18 runs.

Chasing these runs for a historic victory, Afghanistan’s openers did not fare well. Pakistan’s bowlers tried to fight in this match by hitting hard. Debutant Aihsanullah took two wickets in an over. Afghanistan team was in trouble when the score was 45 for 4 in 10 overs.

Former captain and veteran Mohammad Nabi and Najeeb Zadran stood up to help the struggling team out. Both of them batted with patience and did not allow Pakistan any further success. Both of them put on an unbeaten partnership of 54 to give Afghanistan a historic win. Nabi who scored two wickets and 38 runs became the man of the match. Pakistan had won the previous four ODIs and three T20Is played between the two teams.
