Good news for fast bowlers! BCCI’s decision will give an advantage in the important tournament
It is often said that T20 cricket is a game of batsmen. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI is trying to erase the identity. BCCI is going to make an important change in the domestic T20 cricket in the near future. On Saturday (July 8), the BCCI announced that a bowler will be allowed to bowl two bouncers in an over in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
BCCI seems to have taken this decision with full consideration. In Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) i.e. IPL also in coming time bowlers may be allowed to bowl two bouncers in every over. Because something similar happened last year with the impact player rule. BCCI used this rule in Syat Mushtaq Ali Trophy before introducing this rule in IPL. So if this decision about bouncers is successful in Mushtaq Ali Trophy, it can be used in the upcoming IPL as well. A meeting of BCCI senior officials was held on Friday (July 7). What is the new rule?
Till now in T20 cricket, any bowler was allowed to bowl a maximum of one bouncer in an over. However, in ODIs and Tests, two bouncers can be bowled in an over. In this way BCCI has allowed two bouncers in an over in Syat Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy just like ODI and Test cricket. With this decision, the competition between batsmen and bowlers can be seen to become more exciting. In IPL 2023 which was held this year, most of the matches saw teams scoring more than 200. On the whole, the batsmen seemed to have a harder time than the bowlers. Thus, this new rule can give more strength to the bowling department. However, pundits will be watching to see how this rule affects the game in the coming years.
Meanwhile, it is also being reported in the media that various stadiums in India will be renovated during the BCCI meeting. It was also said that the renovation work of 10 stadiums where the upcoming ODI World Cup will be played will be done first, while the work of the remaining stadiums will be done in the second phase.
