Grandfather of Indian Cricket…

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly turns 51 today. Ganguly was one of the most aggressive captains in the world. It was Awaliya who really gave the Indian team the confidence to win abroad. After winning the Natwest series against England in 2002, the way Ganguly celebrated the victory by removing his shirt is still remembered by crores of fans. It has been 15 years since Ganguly retired but even today Ganguly is still associated with Indian cricket for one reason or another.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has played more than 100 Test matches for India. Ganguly is the eighth Indian player to play more than 100 Test matches for India. Ganguly is the fourth player to have played more than 300 ODIs for India. Ganguly has the highest number of runs in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar in India’s cricket history. He has scored 15 centuries in 113 Tests and 22 centuries in 311 ODIs. Ganguly is the seventh batsman in the world and second in India to score 10000 runs in ODIs.

Ganguly captained the Indian team in 49 Test matches between 2000-2005. Ganguly led India to victory in 21 matches out of 49 matches in his captaincy career. In the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the axis of the Indian team was in the hands of Ganguly. In this World Cup, the Indian team reached the final match. Happy 50th birthday to such a great player
