‘Ha’ Yuva became the ICC Player of the Month beating Babar, ‘Ha’ was the best in the women’s section
The ICC Player of the Month award is given every month by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Ireland’s young batsman Harry Tector in the men’s category and Thipatcha Puthavong of Thailand in the women’s category were the recipients of this award in May. Puthavong Thailand team has received this award for the second time in a row.
In the men’s division, three athletes who excelled in the month of May were nominated for the award. Pakistan captain Babar Azam, Ireland’s young batsman Harry Tector and Bangladesh opener Najmul Hasan Shanto were nominated for this award. In the end, Tector won the award beating both the experienced players.
During the first ODI against Bangladesh at Chelmsford, he scored an unbeaten 21 runs before being rained out. Tector then stormed into the second match, scoring a career-best 140 off just 113 balls with seven fours and 10 sixes. Then in the third match too, he scored 45 runs. Reacting after winning the award, he said,
“I am delighted to receive the award. I would like to thank those who voted for me. However, cricket is a team sport, so this award reflects the achievements and progress of the Ireland men’s team.”
Thailand’s Thipatcha Puthavong was successful in winning the award in the women’s category. She beat Sri Lankan veteran Chamari Atapattu and her fellow talent Harshita Madavi.
