Harman in ODI rankings, Sri Lankan captain Bhary in ‘Ya’ record over Mithali; Record broken by 60 balls

Sri Lanka Women vs New Zealand Women team recently played a 3 match ODI series. The last match of this series was played on Monday (July 03). Sri Lanka team won this match by 8 wickets according to Duckworth-Lewis rule. With this victory, Sri Lanka bagged the series 2-1. Captain Chamari Atapattu played an important role in this victory of Sri Lanka. She scored two centuries in the series to top the ICC Women’s ODI rankings. Also, it broke the record of former India captain Mithali Raj.

Atapattu’s record
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu topped the ICC Women’s ODI Ranking List. With this, she became the first Sri Lankan woman player to achieve such a record. Atapattu thus replicates the feat accomplished by Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayasuriya is the only Sri Lankan player to hold the top spot in the men’s ODI batting rankings for 181 days between September 2002 and May 2003.

Haunted ‘Ya’ players with Beth Mooney
Atapattu’s two centuries in three matches gave her a six-place advantage. This leaves her behind the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Meg Lanning and Laura Wolvaard. Also, the top spot has been taken away from Beth Mooney. Beth Mooney has been at the top since May.

Breaking Mithali Raj’s record
While batting in the third match against New Zealand, Atapattu scored a century in just 60 balls. As soon as she scored this century, her name became the highest number of 8 centuries in ODIs. Along with this, she also broke the record of former Indian captain Mithali Raj. Mithali has a record of 7 centuries in ODIs. In addition, the record of scoring most centuries in ODIs is held by Australian captain Meg Lanning. Lanning has scored 15 ODI centuries.

Great performance against New Zealand
Talking about Atapattu’s performance against New Zealand, she scored an unbeaten 108 off 83 balls in the first match. Also, won the player of the match award after scoring an unbeaten 140 in the final match. Additionally, she was honored with the Player of the Series award. She also became the highest run-scorer in the series with 248 runs at a batting average of 248 and a strike rate of 151.22 in 3 matches.
