Havoc! A batsman was dismissed without playing a single ball, for the first time in 12 years

The second and final Test of the 2-match Test series between New Zealand and England concluded in Wellington on Tuesday (February 28). England’s confidence was boosted by winning the first match. New Zealand did the job of breaking this confidence in the second Test. New Zealand bagged this match by just 1 run. In the first innings of this match, an unwanted record was recorded in the name of Pattya who scored a century and a half from England. That player is none other than Harry Brook.

Harry Brook Diamond Duck (Harry Brook Diamond Duck)
England lost the toss and went into bat. This time they lost the first 3 wickets quickly for 21 runs in 6.1 overs. After that, Harry Brook, who came to bat at number five, made a partnership of 302 runs with Joe Root. This includes Root’s 107 and Brook’s 186. Brook scored 186 off 176 balls in the first innings. He scored these runs with the help of 5 sixes and 24 fours. With the batting power of Root (153 not out) and Brook, England had built a mountain of 435 runs in the first innings. However, Brook could not continue his strong performance in the second innings. He became a Diamond Duck.

In England’s second innings, captain Tim Southee was bowling the 22nd over from New Zealand. This time Root was on strike, while Brook was on non-strike. As soon as Saudi bowled the ball to Root, he struck. This time when both batsmen ran for runs, Michael Bracewell caught the ball and threw the ball to the wicket keeper Tom Blundell. This time Blundell ran out Brook without a moment’s delay. Thus Brooke was dismissed for nil without playing a single ball. It is called ‘Diamond Duck’.

This happened after almost 12 years
Harry Brook became the first batsman to become a diamond duck (getting out without facing a ball) in Test cricket after 12 years. Before that, while playing against England in 2010, former Australian opener Simon Katich was also dismissed in a similar manner.

A similar feat of Harry Brooke
Harry Brook became the only player to score more than 50 runs in a single Test and become a Diamond Duck. In the first innings he was dismissed for 186 off 176 balls. Then in the second innings, he bowled a zero ball and was dismissed for zero runs. The only player before him is England’s Monty Panesar, who made a diamond duck against South Africa at the Oval in 2008. (Harry Brook is the first recognized batter in 12 years to get a diamond duck in Test cricket)
