Historic! Blitzing Bangladesh, ODI series in Afghanistan’s pocket, after eight years, shame on Bangladesh

Currently, the ODI series between Bangladesh and Afghanistan is being played in Bangladesh. In the second match of the series at Chattogram, the visiting Afghanistan won by 142 runs. With this, Afghanistan pocketed the three-match series with one match to spare. This defeat made it time for Bangladesh to lose an ODI series at home after eight years. Also, it became the biggest win in Afghanistan’s ODI history.

In this match which was held in Chattogram, Afghanistan team came down with a lead of 1-0. Bangladesh captain Liton Das won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, his decision turned out to be wrong. Afghanistan’s openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave a big opening of 256 runs in 36.1 overs. Ibrahim was dismissed immediately after scoring a century. Gurbaz then scored a career-best knock of 145 runs. After this, however, Afghanistan’s innings collapsed. His last eight wickets were for 72 runs in the last 13 overs.

Chasing a huge target of 332 runs for victory, Fazal Haq Farooq and Mujeeb Rahman broke the backs of the hosts from the start. Bangladesh’s first six batsmen returned for just 72 runs. Experienced Mushfiqur Rahim scored a half-century to save Bangladesh’s innings. He scored 69. Rashid Khan also took two wickets to finish Afghanistan’s innings on 189. Gurbaz was felicitated with the man of the match award.
