History will happen in IPL! The Pandya brothers will lead their respective teams
The first match of IPL 2023 will be played on Sunday (May 7) between top-ranked Gujarat Titans and third-ranked Lucknow Supergiants. This match will be special in a sense. In this match, Gujarat will be led by Hardik Pandya while Lucknow will be led by his elder brother Krunal Pandya. For the first time in IPL history, two brothers will be facing each other like this.
The brothers have so far played against each other or on the same team. In the first season, Irfan Pathan was a part of the Punjab Kings and Yusuf Pathan was a part of the Rajasthan Royals team. After that brothers Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh also played for different teams in IPL. South Africa’s Mornie Morkel and Albie Morkel have also shown their mettle in the IPL. On the other hand, Hardik and Krunal were playing together for Mumbai Indians for five years. However, last year Hardik was part of Gujarat and Krunal was part of Lucknow.
Lucknow was led by KL Rahul in this season. However, he suffered an injury in the match against RCB and was ruled out for the rest of the season. Krunal was made the captain of the team in his place.
In Sunday’s match, both the brothers will play at their home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Hardik had held the captaincy for the first time at any level last year. After getting the captaincy of the IPL team, he went straight to winning the title. After that he also got an opportunity to lead the Indian team. On the other hand, Krunal has previously led the Baroda team in domestic cricket.
