Mohammad Shami took four wickets as India bowled out Australia for just 263 runs in the first innings. Shami took the wickets of Australian openers David Warner, Travis Head, Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhneman in the first innings. He bowled 14.4 overs to take these four wickets and spent 60 runs. Shami took these wickets in the opening and last overs of the innings.

Speaking to the media after the first day’s play, Shami said, “You won’t see much difference in the Indian pitch. If the new ball gives an advantage, the old ball can also reverse swing. As a fast bowler you bowl in the field of position and have to maintain your pace at full time. Delhi’s pitch is no different from Nagpur’s. Australia scored in the morning session, but I tried to bowl the right line-length.”

“All of us have come here after playing domestic cricket. All the fast bowlers have performed well and know how to take advantage of the conditions at home. It is wrong to say that only spinners or fast bowlers get help in India. There is some benefit on the Indian pitch. If nothing else, we are getting reverse swing,” Shami added. Meanwhile, considering the match, India have scored 21 runs without losing a single wicket till the end of the first day’s play.
