“I feel ashamed’, Harbhajan evokes old memories after Gambhir-Virat’s unprecedented row
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the 43rd match of IPL 2023. Lucknow Supergiants lost by 18 runs at their home ground. In this match, there was a heated argument between the players of both the teams. RCB captain Virat Kohli, Lucknow’s young fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq and Lucknow’s mentor Gautam Gambhir were at the center of this controversy. Many former cricketers expressed displeasure over that controversy. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has also advised Gambhir and Kohli on the matter.
In this match which was held at the Ikana Stadium in Lucknow, RCB secured a strong victory by defending 127 runs. But during the match, there was a verbal war between RCB captain Virat Kohli and Lucknow’s young fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq. The two also had an argument during the post-match handshake. After that Lucknow’s mentor Gautam Gambhir jumped into the controversy and talked to Virat. After that, both the players turned on each other as the matter escalated. Many reacted harshly to this saying that it is not befitting behavior of professional athletes.
Speaking about this on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan Singh said,
“What happened between Gambhir and Virat is not fit for cricket. Such things are detrimental to cricketers. In this case the player’s image is tarnished which takes a whole career to improve. I still feel ashamed of what happened between Sreesanth and me.”
Harbhajan and Sreesanth had a big argument during IPL 2008. Harbhajan, who was leading Mumbai, had provoked Sreesanth, who was playing for Punjab at the time. He was subsequently suspended for three matches.
