“I was going to be made the captain of Team India but…”, Sehwag made a big secret explosion
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag is often known for his foul language. He expresses himself without any crowding. Speaking in an interview recently, he revealed some incidents that happened during the tenure of former Indian team coach Greg Chappell. In this he also revealed that he was going to be given the captaincy of the Indian team.
During Chappell’s tenure, the Indian team was divided. The then Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was also dropped from the team. Also, the Indian team returned home from the 2007 ODI World Cup series. Sehwag was a member of the Indian team during this tenure. Narrating his experience at that time, he said,
“The senior players had spent a lot of time with the Indian coaches and had their own favourites. They used to favor their favorite players. The players thought that if a foreign coach comes, he will treat everyone equally. However, this assumption turned out to be wrong. Because foreign coaches also had favorite players.”
Speaking on the issue of giving him the captaincy, he said,
“When Chappell joined the team, he had said that Sehwag would be the next captain of the team. However, I was out of the team in a few days, let alone the captaincy.”
From Sachin Tendulkar, many Indian sports greats are seen criticizing Chappell. The players had said that the Indian team went back ten years during his tenure. Chappell succeeded John Wright as the head coach of the Indian team.
