‘If given an opportunity, ready…’, willing to stay for WTC finals

Ajinkya Rahane has not played international cricket for a long time. But given his international career and current form, many want him to get a chance in the Indian team. Rahane played his first match for CSK in IPL 2023 on Saturday (April 8). In this match, he scored the fastest fifty of the season. After his storming innings, Rahane’s name has been in the news for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Rahane himself is also willing to play in this match.

On Sunday, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (MI vs CSK) faced each other at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. CSK beat the host Mumbai by 7 wickets in this match. Ajinkya Rahane’s contribution was important in the victory. Rahane scored a blistering 61 runs off 27 balls. During this, 7 fours and 3 sixes came out of his bat. Rahane completed his fifty in just 19 balls, which also happened to be the fastest fifty of the current IPL season.

Rahane has previously been a part of Mumbai Indians, Rising Pune Supergiants, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals in the IPL. This year he played for the first time for MS Dhoni’s CSK. After his explosive innings in the very first match, Rahane’s door is again knocking in the Indian team. In the final match of WTC (WTC Final) played in the month of June, India and Australia (Indian vs Australia) teams are facing each other. Given Rahane’s experience in Tests, the team management and selectors may have to think about including him in the squad.

When Rahane was asked about this, he said, “Like I said, I never back down. Anything can happen in cricket. Whenever I get an opportunity, I will be ready for it.” Meanwhile, taking a look at Rahane’s Test career, he has so far played 82 matches for India in this format. The 34-year-old veteran has meanwhile scored 4931 runs. It also includes his 12 centuries and 25 fifties. Under Rahane’s leadership, the Indian team has also won the Test series in Australia.
