India’s ODI and Test squads for the West Indies tour have been announced. After the WTC final defeat, the Indian selectors have taken a tough decision and have shown some experienced players out. The biggest name in this list is Cheteshwar Pujara. The former players of the Indian team are not satisfied with the decision to exclude Pujara from the team. Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh have supported Pujara.
What did Harbhajan Singh say?
Former Indian team player Harbhajan Singh said that Cheteshwar Pujara is the backbone of the team. Hopefully, he will be rested and not excluded. He said, “Cheteshwar Pujara is not here, that’s why I am worried. He is a big player of Indian team. Hopefully, he is rested and not dropped. Pujara is the backbone of this team. If you exclude him, the average of the other batsmen has not been good either.”
‘Equal standards for all’
“The parameters should be the same for every player. It doesn’t matter how big a player he is. If you don’t consider Pujara as an important player, then by this logic other players are not important either. Questions about his career should not be raised. India won the series in Australia. Also, England has flown the winning flag and wherever the team has played well, Pujara has been a force to be reckoned with. He hasn’t done well in the last one-and-a-half years, but you look at other batsmen. It is not right to question only one player.”
In the WTC final, Pujara scored 14 runs in the first innings and 27 runs in the second innings against Australia. The Indian team lost this match by 209 runs. (former cricketer harbhajan singh is not happy with cheteshwar pujara out of test team for west indies tour 2023)
