The second tournament of the domestic cricket season, the Deodhar Trophy, began on Monday (July 24) in Pondicherry. Three matches were played on the first day of this tournament. In these three matches played on the first day, West Division started strongly by defeating North East by as many as 9 wickets. Apart from this, Eastern Division and Southern Division also celebrated big victories.
In the first match of the day played at Pondicherry, West Division registered a one-sided victory over a somewhat weak North East team. With the bowling of Arzan Nagwaswala, Shams Mulani and Shivam Dubey, Western Division bowled out North East for just 207 runs. Chasing these runs, Harvick Desai and Priyank Panchal scored 85 and 99 not out respectively to give their team a big victory.
In the second match of the day, East Division defeated Central Division. In this match, the Central Division scored 207 runs on the strength of Rinku Singh’s half-century. Chasing this relatively small score, Utkarsh Singh played a major role in the team’s victory by scoring 89 runs for the East Division.
The third match of the day was played between South Division and North Division. Seasoned batsmen Rohan Kanumal, Mayank Agarwal and N Jagadishan scored half-centuries for South Section as South Section posted 303 runs before rain interrupted North Section’s batting. Therefore, the batsmen of the North Division could not present a challenge in this match which was prolonged till late. Vidwat Kavirappa’s five wickets saw the North Division team bowled out for just sixty runs.
