West Indies have been eliminated from the ICC World Cup 2023 qualifiers. Therefore, the team will not be able to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament to be held in India at the end of the year. After the Windies defeat, legendary batsman Brian Lara was appointed as the team’s performance guide. Interestingly, the Indian team is currently on a tour of the West Indies and both teams will play a series of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. Before this series, Lara has made a big statement about the Indian team. His statement is currently becoming a topic of discussion.
What did Lara say?
Brian Lara said, “We have two important Test matches to play. This will start our two-year cycle (of the World Test Championship). It’s against India and the Indian team is one of the top teams in the world whether they play at home or away.”
Speaking further, Lara said, “I can say from the experience of the camp that the players are moving in the right direction. The first match in Dominica is a few days away, but this is a young group, led by Craig Braithwaite.”
Laran, who is among the world’s greatest batsmen, said, “I think some of the players in this series will make their mark. India is a tough opponent, but I think we can get the best out of the players in this way.”
West Indies have included two new left-handed batsmen in the squad for this series. They include Kirk McKenzie and Elic Athanaje. Talking about them, Lara said, “Both these players are brilliant. They are young at the moment and don’t have much first-class experience. However, given his playing style and approach, I believe he has what it takes to perform at the highest level.”
Notably, the team finished eighth in the previous WTC cycle with 4 wins and 7 losses. Now, as per the new WTC 2023-25 cycle, the first Test match between West Indies vs India starts from July 12. This match will be played in Dominica. (brian lara gives big statement ahead of india vs west indies test series says this read here)
