Injuries have not stopped chasing the players of the Indian team yet. Many star players are suffering from injuries. Some are suffering from leg pain, some are suffering from back pain. This includes India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has suffered a back injury and is not recovering well. The injury sustained during the tour of England last year forced him out of several major tournaments like the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022. There are reports that Bumrah has decided to undergo a back surgery in view of the upcoming World Cup 2023 tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah can go to New Zealand for surgery. If Bumrah undergoes the surgery, he will have to stay away from the cricket field for at least 20 to 24 weeks. This means, if the Indian team gets a ticket to play in the IPL 2023 tournament and the World Test Championship Tournament Final, he is likely to miss out.
According to media reports, “Jasprit Bumrah may go to New Zealand for his painful back surgery. The Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI’s medical team and the managers of the National Cricket Academy have selected a surgeon from New Zealand for this. The same surgeon also operated on Jofra Archer’s injury. Arrangements are being made to send Bumrah to Auckland.”
Jasprit Bumrah made his comeback in the limited overs series against Australia last year after suffering an injury in England. However, due to not being fully fit, he could not be a part of the next major tournament. He was picked for the series against Sri Lanka earlier this year. However, his name was omitted from the final eleven before the start of the series.
BCCI does not want to take any risk regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness now considering the upcoming World Cup 2023 tournament. That is why steps are being taken fast for his surgery. If Bumrah undergoes this surgery, he can make a comeback in September. So that he can get time to prepare for the World Cup.
