Brief information-

Munaf Patel is the son of a poor farmer living in Ikhar village of Bharuch district of Gujarat.

– Munaf played cricket from the age of 10 despite his father’s opposition. Meanwhile, during vacations, he also worked as a laborer in the nearby tiles factory. There he used to get 35 rupees for 8 hours.

-He got a chance to play cricket because of a person close to him named Yusuf Bhai. He had admitted Munaf in the cricket academy in Baroda. Also, shoes worth Rs.400 were bought and given to him.

– Former India wicketkeeper batsman Kiran More was impressed by Munaf’s innings at the Academy in Baroda at the age of 20. He admitted him to MRF Foundation in Chennai.

– Munaf was an important cricketer of Gujarat and Baroda team in Ranji Trophy. Later, he joined the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team as per the instructions of Sachin Tendulkar.

Munaf made his first-class debut in 2003 against New Zealand in Rajkot. This time he was playing for the India A team with figures of 3/83 and 2/22 respectively in both the innings.

– In 2006, he got a chance to play Test for the first time against England. This time, he gave 72 runs and 3 wickets in the first innings, helping the team to take a lead of 38 runs. Also in the next innings he took 4 wickets giving 25 runs and won the match by 9 wickets.

Along with this, he became the fastest bowler with the best stats on his Test debut.

-Munaf was part of 2 World Cups won by India. This included the 2007 T20 World Cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

He also had an excellent bowling performance in the 2011 World Cup. He was the third highest wicket taker after Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan in the entire cup this time with 11 wickets.

-He is known for his fast bowling along with his angry nature. Munaf had to pay 75 per cent of his match fee for arguing with the umpire during the 2008 ODI against Sri Lanka.

-Not only this, he also had an argument with Virender Sehwag in the Irani Trophy match against Delhi a few months later. He also had a dispute with Amit Mishra in IPL.

– Munaf was a partner in the 2008 Rajasthan Royals and 2013 Mumbai Indians victories.

-He married Taslima, a girl from his own Ikhar village in 2010.
