-However, he went on to score 3 half-centuries in just 5 matches in the 1987 first-class season.

– Even in ODIs, initially he got to bat in the lower order. But, after his debut against the West Indies in 1988, he got a chance to bat at number 3 in the next match under Ravi Shastri. But this time he missed his chance to score a century by only 5 runs. He scored 95 runs.

– Due to Dilip Vengsarkar’s injury, Raman got an opportunity to make his Test debut against West Indies in 1988. This time too, under the leadership of Shastri, Raman scored 83 runs while batting at number three. Moreover, 1 wicket was also taken in the first over.

– Later in the 1988-89 season while playing for Tamil Nadu, Raman had big innings of 313, 200 not out and 238 runs. Along with this he broke the old record of Russian Modi by completing 1018 runs in the entire season.

– After retirement, Raman decided to train. In 2006, he was selected as the coach of the Tamil Nadu team. He coached Tamil Nadu for a long time.

-Then in 2010, he was selected as the coach of Bengal in place of Roger Binny. Later he also coached Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders of IPL.
