IPL 2023: 6 out of 10 teams could still qualify for play-offs, these are the equations
– Anil Bhoir
The last week of the IPL league starts from Monday (May 15) with 9 matches remaining. But none of these teams have officially qualified for the play-offs yet. Let’s see how the equations are.
Gujarat Titans- Gujarat Titans team needs at least 1 win to qualify for play-offs. Even if a match is cancelled, they will be eligible. In case of two defeats, they are likely to qualify on the basis of net run rate as well. Looking at the current situation, the Gujarat team has almost qualified.
Remaining Matches- Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB-
Chennai Super Kings- CSK have one match left and they must win the match against Delhi Capitals. If they lose, they will have to depend on the other team’s result for the play-offs.
Remaining match- Delhi Capitals
Mumbai Indians- Mumbai Indians need to win both their remaining matches. 1 win, 1 loss will require RCB and Punjab Kings to lose 1. Because if all the three teams remain at 16 points, the net run rate of the Mumbai team is likely to suffer.
Remaining Matches- Lucknow Supergiants, Sunrisers Hyderabad
Lucknow Supergiants- Lucknow Supergiants can go directly to the play-offs by winning both the remaining matches. But in case of one loss, RCB and Punjab will need to lose 1 to qualify for 15 points.
Remaining Matches – Mumbai Indians, KKR
RCB- Royal Challengers Bangalore must win both remaining matches to move to 16 points. 16 points are likely to qualify based on net run rate or Mumbai, Lucknow and Punjab will qualify on 16 points if they lose one.
Remaining Matches- Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans
Punjab Kings- Punjab Kings must win both remaining matches to reach 16 points. Along with this, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow and RCB will qualify on 16 points if they lose one. Or bettering the net run rate while winning both matches and relying on the net run rate to qualify.
Remaining Matches- Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad Hyderabad are the least likely teams to qualify for the play-offs. All the three teams can win their remaining matches and move to 14 points but Mumbai, Lucknow, RCB and Punjab will still need to lose. After that it will depend on the net run rate. So they have little to go on. Delhi Capitals are already officially out of the play-off race.
