Responding to this question, Ponting said, “Akshar Patel was our vice-captain last year as well. Once a player has been with a franchise for a long time, we respect him. Akshar will be at the top of the best players in this IPL. After having him there is a good atmosphere in the team. He is a good player and has a lot of experience. That’s why the decision to make him vice-captain is the right one.”

At this time Ponting also informed that David Warner will play as opener for Delhi Capitals and Prithvi Shaw will open the innings for him. Ponting said, “Prithvi Shaw will bat in the opener along with David Warner. Mitchell March will come to bat at number three. Because his performance in recent times has been tremendous. Expect Marsh to do the same for Delhi Capitals.” Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play their first match in the upcoming IPL against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
