England announced their playing eleven two days before the match. Mitchell Starc was not named in Australia’s playing XI after winning the toss on Friday. Starc’s exclusion from the team has seen mixed reactions on social media.

Mitchell Starc is one of the leading bowlers of the Australian team. However, captain Pat Cummins and the team management did not select him in the playing eleven for the first match of Ashes 2023. It is said that Starc has been left out of the squad so that fast bowler Josh Hazelwood can play. Australia won by 209 runs in the final of the World Test Championship against India. Boland took 2 wickets in the first innings and 3 wickets in the second innings against India. On the other hand, Josh Hazlewood was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League a few days ago.
