“It is Shubman, not me, who deserves the opening slot”, Shikhar admits with great heart
Indian cricket team’s veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan is currently out of the national team. Shikhar, who was leading the Indian ODI team until a few months ago, is not part of any of the three types of cricket team. Now he will be seen playing in the 16th season of IPL in the upcoming period. This time he has got an opportunity to lead the Punjab Kings team. In an interview conducted by a leading sports news channel, Shikhar gave heartfelt answers. He was asked the question, if you had to choose now, who would you choose? Shikhar Dhawan or Shubman Gill?
In reply he said,
“Of course Shubman Gill. Because he is now playing international cricket and has form. So I think it’s better to give him a chance than me.”
Speaking further on the matter, he said,
“Coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have given me ample opportunities in recent times. Unfortunately my form got worse. After that, Shubman, who got the opportunity, took advantage of that opportunity and made big innings. I’m definitely happy to see him playing the way he is playing.”
Indian team wants to play ODI World Cup this year. He also expressed his desire to return to the team for this World Cup. Currently, captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have confirmed their place in the Indian team. However, there still seems to be a vacant position as the third opener.
