It was banging! Dravid had the tension of ‘that’ match going on at 12,500 kms
The four-match Test series between India and Australia ended on Monday (March 13). After the last match in Ahmedabad was a draw, the Indian team won the series 2-1. But while this match was starting, the attention of Indian team’s head coach Rahul Dravid was focused on the Christchurch Test, which is twelve and a half thousand kilometers away.
Earlier, Australia had struck in the final of the World Test Championship. The Indian team needed to win the Ahmedabad Test to become the second team in this final. If India failed to win the Test, India would have to depend on New Zealand and Sri Lanka. If Sri Lanka won the series 2-0, Sri Lanka would enter the finals. Even if one of these two matches ended in a draw, the Indian team would have qualified for the finals.
The fifth day of the match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka was being played at Christchurch. New Zealand needed 285 runs to win. As New Zealand batted with intent to win, they suffered a few casualties. The New Zealand team was as worried about this match as the Indian team was.
Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid speaking after the India vs Australia match said,
“Not going to lie but we had our eye on that match as well. When the New Zealand batsmen were dismissed, we thought, why are they playing so aggressively? But we have to thank them a little too.”
The New Zealand team won this thrilling match by two wickets on the last ball. Kane Williamson was instrumental in the team’s victory with a blistering century.
