Jasprit Bumrah remembered by Mumbai after exiting IPL season; Taking Archer’s name, the coach said…
After Qualifier Two of Indian Premier League 2023, Mumbai Indians’ journey has come to an end. Gujarat Titans lost against Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier One. In this case, they had to win two qualifiers before the final match. On Friday (May 26), Gujarat defeated Mumbai by 62 runs to reach the final. After the defeat in this match, Mumbai Indians felt the lack of their fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.
Most pundits predicted that Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack will be the best in IPL 2023. However, even before the start of IPL 2023, it was clear that Jasprit Bumrah will not play in this league due to injury. On the other hand, Jofra Archer () returned to the field after surgery. But there was still confusion about whether to play IPL or not. However, Archer recovered from his injury and played in the IPL this year. Archer’s injury woes surfaced even as the IPL continued and he set a record for returning home halfway through the season.
According to Mark Boucher, the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer created a big void in Mumbai’s team. We can also say that other bowlers could not fill the gap of these two. Boucher was talking to the media after conceding defeat against Gujarat. Coach Boucher said at the time, “You can see that Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer were not confused. Both are amazing bowlers for the team. If you lose those types of players, it creates a huge void in the team. I don’t want to accuse anyone, but the injury keeps getting worse while playing. We must deal with such injuries.”
Meanwhile, considering the overall match between the two teams, Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Gujarat Titans scored 233 for 3 in 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai Indians were bowled out for 171 runs in 18.2 overs. Shubman Gill played the best knock of 129 off 60 balls for Gujarat. Suryakumar Yadav was able to contribute the most runs for Mumbai. Suryakumar contributed 61 runs off 38 balls. The contribution of fast bowler Mohit Sharma was also important in Gujarat’s victory. Mohit spent 10 runs in just 2.2 overs and took five wickets. (Mark Boucher recalls Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer after Mumbai Indians’ exit for the season)
