KL Rahul or KS Bharat, who will get a chance to play WTC final?
The final match of the World Test Championship will be played between India and Australia in the month of June. The Indian team has reached the final of the World Test Championship for the second time in a row. But the team’s regular wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant Yaveli will not be available for the WTC final. KL Rahul and KS Bharat are competing for the Indian wicketkeeper’s role in this final match. Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman and former selector Saba Karim has expressed his opinion on this.
KS Bharat performed the role of wicket keeper for India in the recently played Border Gavaskar Test series. KL Rahul was also playing as a batsman in this Test series against Australia. But after a modest innings in the first two matches, Rahul was left out of the playing eleven for the third and fourth Tests. Now that India has reached the WTC final, all eyes are on who will play as wicketkeeper between Rahul and Bharat. According to Saba Karim, even if Rahul is not included in the team as a wicketkeeper, he should get a chance as a batsman.
Speaking to the media, Karim said, “It is purely a decision of the team management. In recent times, young players are constantly getting opportunities. The team management is constantly giving opportunities and this is an effort to create confidence in the minds of the young players. Interestingly, the management is not talking much about the performance of the players. The quality of the player is considered more important. This instills courage and confidence in these players. The players feel that one bad game cannot spoil their career.”
“Although KL Rahul has not played as a wicketkeeper, he should be selected in the team as a batsman. He has a lot of quality. Everyone knows this. His quality cannot be questioned,” the former selector added. During the Border Gavaskar Trophy, the pitch was spin-friendly and the ball was turning a lot. In such a situation, it was difficult for the wicket-keeper KS Bharat to carry out the responsibility behind the wicket. Saba Karim also pointed out this issue. He said, “I hope that KS Bharat gets a chance to play as a wicket-keeper batsman in the WTC final. The pitch was not normal during the series against Australia. It was difficult for any wicketkeeper to stand there. Indian quality should not be checked in such circumstances.”
