Kohli wanted, but Sehwag himself refused to become the head coach

Former legendary cricketer Virender Sehwag revealed that he had a chance to become the head coach of the Indian team. When Anil Kumble stepped down as India’s head coach in 2017, Sehwag also applied for the post. But for some reason he did not accept this responsibility.

There were many reports that there was a dispute between Anil Kumble and the then Indian captain Virat Kohli. For this reason, Kumble also left the post of coach. After Kumble, Virendra Sehwag could be chosen as the head coach of the team. But eventually Ravi Shastri got this responsibility. Shastri held the position of head coach between 2017 and 2021. In 2021, Shastri stepped down as the coach after the Indian team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup, and Rahul Dravid is currently handling this responsibility.

While talking to a media outlet yesterday, Sehwag was questioned about becoming the captain and head coach of the Indian team. Responding to this, Sehwag said that he has no regrets about not being able to captain and coach the team. He is happy with what he has achieved in his career. He comes from a small town called Najafgarh and a farming family. Coming from a farming family, getting a seat in the Indian team is a big deal for him. He also said that he would have received the same amount of love he got from the fans even when he was the captain.

Why did you apply for the post of coach –
Sehwa also revealed at the time that he applied for the coaching post after being told by the then BCCI secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and Virat Kohli. After a meeting with Virat and Chaudhary, Chauthary told him that Virat and Kumble had a difference of opinion. So he was asked to become the head coach. Sehwag, however, did not say yes or no to the proposal. Kumble was scheduled to step down as coach after the 2017 Champions Trophy. After that, India wanted to tour the West Indies. Sehwag had made a condition that if Sehwag was appointed as the coach for the West Indies tour, the support stop would be favourable, which was not agreed.
