Lasith Malinga’s biggest IPL record destroyed! Rabada’s great performance in the first match of the season
Punjab Kings fast bowler Kagiso Rabada played his first match of IPL 2023 on Thursday (April 13). In this match he took 1 wicket for 36 runs in four overs and completed his 100 wickets in IPL. He also broke the special record of former Sri Lanka and Mumbai Indians legend Lasith Malinga.
Kagiso Rabada has now become the bowler to complete his 100 wickets in the shortest number of matches in IPL history. He took 100 IPL wickets in just 64 matches. Earlier this record was held by Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka. Malinga took 100 wickets in 70 matches.
Batting first, Punjab Kings scored 153 for 8 on Thursday. In reply, Gujarat reached the target in 19.5 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. In the 5th over of Gujarat’s innings, Rabada took the wicket of opener Wriddhiman Saha. Saha had then scored 30 off 19 balls and was set on the pitch. However, he played a pool shot off Rabada’s short delivery and was caught by Mathew Short at deep square leg. Along with this, he became the 21st bowler to take 100 wickets in IPL. Rabada is fifth in the list of foreign players to take 100 IPL wickets.
