Lion became the ‘Emperor’ of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy! Earned the top spot beating two Indians
Australia’s veteran spinner Nathan Lyon has performed tremendously in the Indore Test match between India and Australia. The Lions dominated the second day of the third Test, putting the Indian team on the back foot. He took eight wickets in India’s second innings to become the most successful bowler in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
On the first day, Australia bowled India out for just 109 runs. After that, Australia took a significant lead of 46 runs at the end of the first day, losing 4 wickets. On the second day, Ravichandar Ashwin and Umesh Yadav thwarted Australia’s intention to take a big lead. Both took three wickets each to end Australia’s innings on 197 runs.
However, in India’s second innings, Nathan Lyon blew the mind of the Indian batsmen. He bowled 23.3 out of 60 overs for 64 runs and bowled 8 batsmen. Along with this, he became the highest wicket-taker in the history of Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He surpassed former Indian captain Anil Kumble in this regard.
Now the Lions have 113 wickets. Whereas, Anil Kumble had hunted 111 batsmen in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Before the start of the second innings of the Indian team, Lion was at the third position in the list. Ravichandran Ashwin stands in second place with 106 wickets. However, now Lion has overtaken him as well.
Also, he is the only bowler to come to India and take eight or more wickets twice in the same village in India. He had done this in the Bangalore Test on the previous tour.
