Indian cricket team’s all-time great batsman Sunil Gavaskar is celebrating his 74th birthday on Monday (July 10). During his illustrious career, he achieved many great records. He is counted among the best batsmen in cricket history. He revealed the most memorable moment of his career on his birthday.
Gavaskar created many records in his career spanning more than sixteen years. Meanwhile, when asked what was the most memorable moment in your career, he said,
“My career has been long but the World Cup win by the Indian team is the biggest moment of my life. I have never been so happy. That moment still brings tears to my eyes.”
He further said,
“Even after all these years, the moment I was watching that trophy lifted by Kapil Dev came from the depths. As an individual player you can achieve many things. But when your team achieves something so big, it’s a different kind of joy.”
The Indian team won the World Cup for the first time in 1983 by defeating a strong West Indies team with nobody’s total. Gavaskar was performing the role of opener in this team. Gavaskar, who made his international debut in 1971, played 125 Test matches and scored 10,122 runs at an average of over 51. He was the first batsman to reach 10,000 runs in international cricket. In addition, he also played 108 ODI matches. He was the captain of the Indian team that won the World Cricket Championship in 1985.
