Lord’s Test star Smith sits second in Test rankings, but top spot goes to ‘Ya’ legend

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the Test rankings on Wednesday (July 5). Australia’s legendary batsman Steve Smith has reached the second position in the Test rankings with consistent performance. Smith achieved this number after scoring 110 runs in the Lord’s Test match. However, New Zealand’s legendary batsman Kane Williamson has topped the Test rankings. He has done this feat surpassing Joe Root.

Steve Smith won the man of the match award after scoring 110 and 34 runs in the Lord’s Test match. This allowed him to move up four places to the second spot in the ICC Test rankings. Smith last topped the Test rankings in June 2021. At that time he replaced Williamson for a few weeks before being overtaken again by Kane Williamson.

Root, on the other hand, managed only 10 and 18 runs. So he has fallen to the fifth position. So Williamson won the top spot again. This was his sixth time at the top. He first occupied the top spot in November 2015. Also, the latter became the top Test batsman in August 2021.

Talking about the points in ICC Test Ranking, Williamson who is at the top has 883 points. Smith is just one point behind Williamson. He has 882 marks. Also, Australia’s batsman Marnus Labuschein is in the third place with 873 points. Additionally, Travis Head is in fourth place with 872 points.

England batsman Ben Duckett has jumped directly into the top 20 for the first time in his career from 24th position. He is ranked 18th. He won this position after scoring 98 and 83 runs in the second Ashes Test match. On the other hand, Ben Stokes’ knock of 155 in the second Test saw him gain 9 places.
