More than 5000 cricketers in the world, but Dale Steyn is the only one to hold two ‘such’ records.

South African fast bowler Dale Steyn, popularly known as ‘Staingun’, celebrates his 40th birthday on Tuesday (June 27). Steyn has always been considered among the best fast bowlers in the world.

He was born on June 27, 1983 in Phalborwa. Steyn made his international debut in December 2004 in a Test match against England. After almost 17 years, he has bid farewell to international cricket.

Steyn has played a total of 93 Tests, 125 ODIs and 47 T20 Internationals for South Africa during his career. He has taken 439 wickets in Tests at an average of 22.95. In ODIs he has taken 196 wickets at an average of 25.95, while in T20s he has taken 64 wickets at an average of 18.35.

Let’s know about some of his special records

– Steyn is the only fast bowler in the world to have taken 5 wickets in an innings against major teams playing 9 Tests. Also, his strike rate is the highest i.e. 42.3 among bowlers who have taken 200 wickets.

– He is also the third batsman to score more than 500 runs while batting at number 10 in Test cricket. He has scored 568 runs. He has also scored 1251 runs in 119 innings in Tests so far.

– Steyn topped the ICC Test bowling rankings for 6 consecutive years. It has remained at the top from 2010 to 2015.

He retired from Test cricket in 2019. He was honored with South Africa’s Streetwise Award. He remains South Africa’s most successful bowler in Test cricket.
