Mudit Dani of Maharashtra created history, hoisted India’s tricolor; Became the first Indian to win the NCTTA Male Athlete of the Year award
New Delhi, June 16, 2023: Indian table tennis player Mudit Dani has carved his name in the pages of history. He has become the first Indian to win the Athlete of the Year award given by the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association (NCTTA). Mudit has been honored for the best performance in the year 2022-23.
The NCTTA is the national association member of American Table Tennis and this prestigious award is presented at the end of each season to the top performing male players at USA and Canadian universities. “Receiving the NCTTA Male Athlete of the Year award is an incredible honor and I am the first Indian to win the award. Representing India at any level is always the most satisfying thing for me,” said Mudit.
This young man from Maharashtra has recently completed his post-graduation from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He won two gold medals and helped the team win the NCTTA National Championship for the second time in a row. His exceptional performances also include an 11-0 record in the 2022-23 season. The 24-year-old won his first ITTF senior medal in 2019 at the US Open Championship and reached the doubles quarter-finals at the WTT tournament in the USA last year.
