New Zealand beat Sri Lanka, first time in 44 years

The second match in the series was inconclusive. Sri Lanka failed to finish eighth in the Super League for the World Cup after being beaten by New Zealand on Friday. Had the Sri Lankan team won this match, they could have secured their eighth spot in the Super League. As a result, the Sri Lankan team would have got a chance to play directly in the ODI World Cup.

In this case, if the Sri Lankan team wants to play in the World Cup now, they will have to play qualifier matches. Qualifier matches for the World Cup will be played in June 2023. This is the first time in the last 44 years that the Sri Lankan team will be playing a qualifier match for the World Cup. The top seven ranked teams will play in the Super League in World Cup 2023. The eighth ranked team will also qualify directly for the World Cup. West Indies are currently at the eighth position. But South Africa can take this job. The Africa team still has two matches to play in the Super League, in which the team will go all out to win.

Meanwhile, considering this third ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. But the batsmen could not perform as expected. Sri Lanka scored 157 runs in 41.3 overs losing all wickets. In reply, New Zealand reached the target for the loss of 4 wickets in 32.5 overs.
