“Not even ICC will be able to do anything before BCCI…”, Afridi said on the Asia Cup controversy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board have been at loggerheads over the Asia Cup 2023 issue for the past few months. The controversy started after a statement by BCCI secretary Jai Shah, which does not seem to have settled down yet. A few days ago, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin commented on whether India will tour Pakistan to play the upcoming Asia Cup. Now after Ashwin’s reaction, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi also expressed his opinion. According to Afridi, even ICC cannot do anything before BCCI.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had first clarified that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. After his statement, the PCB was shocked, but the then PCB chairman Rameez Raja also gave a strong reply. Rameez Raja had said that if India does not come to Pakistan, then Pakistan too will not come to India for the ODI World Cup. But according to Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, this decision will not be easy for Pakistan. Ashwin shared a detailed video about this on his own YouTube channel. Ashwin had said in the video that even if India did not go to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, Pakistan would have to come to India for the World Cup. It is not possible for the Pakistan team to withdraw from a big tournament like the World Cup.

After Ashwin’s statement, different opinions are being expressed in the cricket world. Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi also expressed his opinion on Ashwin’s video. Speaking to Pakistani media, Afridi said, “If one is unable to stand on one’s own feet, it is not easy to take tough decisions. They have a lot to think about. India have made themselves so strong, that they can give the opposition teams an eyeful. Otherwise they would not have had the courage to speak like this.”
