Australia’s veteran batsman Steve Smith is currently on a tour of India. Australia suffered humiliating defeats in the first two Tests of the tour. Smith recently gave an interview to a cricket website. In this he was asked many questions. He answered all these questions. However, when asked who is the future superstar of cricket, he named England’s Harry Brooke.
Smith is considered one of the best batsmen in current cricket. In an interview with a leading cricket website, he was asked whether he is the future cricket superstar Shubman Gill or Harry Brook. In response, he called out Brooke’s name. With many critics currently calling Gill the best batsman of the next generation, Smith’s naming of Brook has raised eyebrows.
A look at Gill’s career so far shows that he can definitely be a future big player. Currently only 23 years old, Gill has managed to score 736 runs in 13 Tests with a century. However, he showed his best game on tough pitches like Australia and England. He has maintained a brilliant average of 73.76 while scoring 1253 runs in just 21 ODIs. Interestingly, he also has an international double century in ODI cricket. He averages over 40 in T20 Internationals. Gill has scored as many as four international centuries while playing in the month of January.
On the other hand, Brooke seems to like Gill a lot. Brooke, who recently started his international career, has scored at an average of 77.87 in 5 Tests. Interestingly, he played these matches in challenging conditions like Pakistan and New Zealand. Scored at a strike rate of over 137 in 20 T20Is. He will be seen playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming IPL.
