India’s veteran all-rounder Hardik Pandya has played the final in both the back-to-back IPL seasons. It was certainly not easy for him to return to the cricket field after the injury. However, Pandya bounced back undeterred and started playing a vital role for the team. Pandya, who played for India in ODI and T20 international cricket after injury, is yet to play in the Test format. However, now former Indian team coach Ravi Shastri has made an important statement about his Test career.
The Indian team was recently selected for the West Indies tour. Hardik once again failed to make it to the Test team. While making his statement about the future of Test cricket, Shastri said,
“I have said earlier that after the ODI World Cup, Hardik should lead India’s ODI and T20 teams. However, his chances of making a comeback in Test cricket are slim. From what I saw of him before and after the injury, I can say that his body will not support him to play Test cricket anymore. It is indeed very unfortunate.”
Hardik has not played Test cricket for the last five years. But he is a regular member of ODI and T20 team. He played his last Test match in September 2018. Hardik played 11 Test matches for India after making his Test debut in 2017. During this time he had scored 532 runs and 17 wickets. Currently, he is the vice-captain of India’s ODI and T20 teams. Under his leadership, Gujarat Titans reached the finals of IPL.
