A mistake made by Mumbai Indians player Tim David in the qualifier match against Gujarat Titans cost the team dearly. It can also be said that Mumbai could not reach the final due to David’s mistake. Shubman Gill’s contribution was the biggest in Gujarat’s victory. Gill made a storming knock of 129 runs. But had Tim David not made that mistake, Gill could have been dismissed very cheaply.
The second eliminator match of Indian Premier League 2023 was played on Friday (May 26) between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma had to accept defeat by 62 runs in this match which was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The fans are blaming Tim David for the loss to Mumbai. Mumbai Indians had to pay the price of the catch dropped by Tim David by 99 runs. This catch was by Shubman Gill.
Chris Jordan was bowling in the sixth over of Gujarat Titans’ innings. Shubman hits the ball of the over towards mid-on. David standing there had a good chance to catch the catch. But still the catch escaped from David’s hand. At this time Shubman Gill was playing on the pitch with just 30 runs. Had David taken this catch, Gill’s 129 would not have been scored and Gujarat would not have reached the 233 mark.

Gill took full advantage of David’s mistake and hit his third century of the season. He scored 129 runs in just 60 balls. It had 10 fours and 7 fours. Mumbai were set a target of 234 runs by Gujarat to win. But the entire Mumbai team was bowled out for 171 runs in 18.2 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was able to perform at his best for Mumbai. Surya did not contribute 61 runs in 38 balls. Along with that, Tilak Verma scored 43 runs in just 14 balls. Gujarat fast bowler Mohit Sharma’s contribution was the most important to get Mumbai all out. Mohit took a team-high 5 wickets with 10 runs in 2.2 overs. (One mistake of Tim David, Mumbai canceled the ticket to the final! A price of 99 runs had to be paid)
