“Only aggressiveness doesn’t work, like my team…” Ganguly’s criticism of Team India
In the final match of the World Test Championship, the Indian team was defeated by the Australian team by 209 runs. India has had to accept defeat in the Asia Cup last year, then the T20 World Cup and now the WTC tournament. Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid have been heavily criticized after India’s failure in three consecutive major tournaments. Now former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly’s name also joined in this.
Sourav Ganguly recently gave an interview while the Indian team was being criticized. Speaking in it, he commented on the current performance of the Indian team. Speaking about his performance in the World Test Championship final, he said,
“Indian team plays aggressive cricket. Aggression is important. However, your performance should also be the same. If you look at the five-six years from 2001 to 2006, India’s batsmen scored 500-600 runs at major venues. The team scored at Sydney, Brisbane, Headingley, Nottingham, The Oval, Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore. So there was pressure on the rival teams.”
He added,
“I can understand that cricket has changed a lot in the last 10 years. However, the Indian team has to score 350-400 runs in the first innings of Test cricket.”
Australia scored 469 runs in the first innings in the World Test Championship final. In reply, the Indian team managed to score 296 runs. Therefore, the Australian team got a lead of 172 runs in the first innings. Due to this, the Indian team suffered a huge defeat in the end.
