Australia piled up a massive 469 runs for the loss of all wickets in the final match of the World Test Championship 2023 on Thursday (June 08). The Indian team fought well in chasing this challenge. India got off to a very poor start this time. The pair of openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill returned to the tent within 30 runs. After this, the fans had a lot of expectations from Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, who were in great form, but they disappointed. Pujara and Kohli were dismissed with 14 runs each.
Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed by Cameron Green in the 14th over, while Virat Kohli was shown the way to the tent by Mitchell Starc in the 19th over. India’s top 4 batsmen were back in the tent within 71 runs. Then all the responsibility fell on the shoulders of Ajinkya Rahane who made a comeback to the team after a long absence of 18 months.
Rahane was handling the responsibility in a good manner, but in the 22nd over, a ball from Pat Cummins gave India a big blow. However, something happened later, which gave Rahane a big boost.
In fact, the last ball of the over was bowled by Pat Cummins at a good length down the line of the stumps, which went out lightly. Rahane went to defend on this ball, but the ball hit the pads directly in front of the off stump and Rahane was dismissed as the umpires heard the appeal. After this, there was a lot of drama.
Immediately after the dismissal by the umpire, Rahane took a review. The third umpire saw in the replay that the bowler’s leg was slightly ahead of the line. The ball was given a no-ball and thus Rahane narrowly escaped and misjudged Pacha’s opening decision. Had the ball not been a no-ball, Rahane would have had to take the tent route.
After Rahane came alive, he put on a 100-ball 71-run partnership with Jadeja. Also, took India’s score past 140. Jadeja was dismissed for 48 off 51 balls. This included 1 six and 7 fours. After Jadeja, KS Bharath came in to support Rahane on the pitch. By the end of the second day’s play, India had scored 151 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Rahane is unbeaten on 29 runs, Bharat on 5 runs. (batsman ajinkya rahane was given out by the umpires but it was a no ball from pat cummins)
